Aware Newsletter September 2020
Spring has sprung! Celebrating birthdays, new works, and heaps more.
September is always a big month for us, but 2020 brought a really special occasion with it - Warehouse Circus has turned 30.
That’s right, three decades of learning, playing, and creating in Canberra and beyond. We are so grateful to have had the support of our fantastic community to get us this far. You can read about and celebrate every step of the way on the new History page on our website - click the image down below.
Congratulations Emerging Artists!
It’s not just birthdays we’re celebrating this month! We are also so proud to have been able to send Clare and Imogen, two of our emerging artists, to work with Jake Silvestro and Bernard Bru in L'entreprise du Risque at Belconnen Arts Centre as part of the Where You Are Festival.

Imogen and Clare performed skillfully together with Silvestro and Bru, and Director Sammy Moynihan said this about the collaboration in an interview with Genevieve Jacobs:
“there was a real sense that we were fostering and continuing a circus culture and conversation”.
“The professionals really mentored the emerging artists and then it became clear that it was a co-mentorship because the emerging artists had such fruitful things to say.”

We would like to congratulate Imogen and Clare on their first experience of professional circus, and the rest of the cast and crew of L’Enterprise Du Risque for a great show!
A special mention also goes to our senior head trainer Ashley, who helped the artists devise their piece, chaperoned them at the project, and made sure they were looked after.
Spring Holiday Programs and Workshops
We have already had a fantastic week with our Holiday Program participants! We have another week of programs starting on Tuesday October 6th for Half Highs (5-7 years) and Kick Ups (8-12 years) that are still open for enrolments! Click the button below if you’d like to nab those last few places.
It was also lovely to get out in the sunshine with the City Renewal Authority’s “ReNew You” program to deliver workshops in Haig Park bringing a taste of the circus to local families!
Have you updated your details for Term 4?
We are gearing up for Term 4 and have opened classes for enrolment on the Members Portal! Remember to update your details so we can hit the ground running for training in week one!
NEW Kick Ups Class
We are excited to share with you that we are opening our third training space in Canberra, our new southern training space is located at the Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre in Conder. The first program to be run at this location will be a shortened Kick Ups (8-12Yrs) on Mondays 3:45-4:45 pm, and as an introductory offer this class will have a full fee subsidy for term 4. If you live in the Tuggeranong area or have friends that are interested in a class, this is a great opportunity to get in while it’s all brand new!
A friendly reminder also that as a participant of Warehouse Circus classes, our young people are associate members of our organisation, and their guardians are members of the same. That means you can attend AGMs, engage with us about things of interest to you, and even stand for our board!
We periodically have vacancies for the board, so if you are interested in helping a long-standing Canberra not-for-profit circus deliver excellence to the Canberra region, drop us a line and let us know!
Kaleen Class Viewing Notice
Due to some ongoing issues in our Kaleen spaces we have made the difficult decision to no longer allow parents or guardians to be in the training space during classes (excluding parent assist programs).
The training space door will be left open so that parents/guardians can check on the class however they must not enter the room, or involve themselves in the class unless requested by trainers. Parents are welcome to wait in the corridor outside the training space during class if they do not wish to leave the building.
From time to time, Warehouse Circus will invite parents to come and watch a class; this will be done via written communication.
At Chifley parents/guardians will still be allowed to watch from the viewing windows
Flying Fruit Fly Circus Auditions
Australia’s only full-time circus program for ages 8+ is now auditioning for 2021! The Flying Fruit Fly Circus and School is a fantastic way to kickstart your circus career while still being able to finish academic schooling at the same time. Anyone aged 8 and over with a passion for circus arts can audition by sending in a video or attending in-person auditions in Albury (maybe once border restrictions ease…)
Any Warehouse Circus participant interested in auditioning should get in touch so that we can work together to ensure you have the best chance of success in your audition!
