Read about our experiences at Circus Camp, the upcoming Mid Year Show and heaps more!
Circus Camp was a BLAST!
The inaugural Warehouse Circus Monoxide camp has taken place, and by all accounts seemed to have been a bit of a corker.
Aerialise from Sydney, Circus Monoxide from Wollongong and Warehouse all spent time at the KumBa Yah Guides camp for a week of circus and fun.
There were beach trips, excursions to circus performances, a group show from all the kids for the public of Shoalhaven, and of course, a week of skill development with trainers from all three circuses and NICA.
For the first time we had ever run such a venture, it felt like a really positive start.
Enormous thanks go to Idris and Ashley as Warehouse trainers who went above and beyond to make the camp succeed, as well as our tireless chaperones, Mel, Kirsty, Tracy and Harriet. Without our amazing parent support crew, this camp could not have succeeded.
Special thanks also to all the members of P-Troupe in attendance; you looked after each other and the participants from other circuses, and helped out with all the jobs.
Thanks, gang! Looking forward to doing it again.
Two drums and a cymbal fell off a cliff.
Ba-dum-tish!
How do you make an AGM better? With a Mid-Year Show!
The Mid Year show and Annual General Meeting is on Sunday the 23rd of May from 10am-2pm! Entry is $5 or by donation.
Venue is Chifley Training Space, 4/70 Maclaurin St, Chifley.
This year we will be having performances from all our troupes: The next step troupes and performance troupes!
We will be running an equipment raffle, there will be games and fun, and there will also be 2 shows - a show at 11am and another at 1pm.
This is to deal with Covid capacity issues, and you will need to book to confirm attendance (Covid requirements again).
We will also be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) between the shows! This is a short, sharp meeting where you as members can stand for the board, vote in recurring and new board members, find out what is happening with the organisation now and into the future, and ask any questions you might have about how we do things.
To meet our reporting and regulatory requirements as an organisation, we must hold an AGM and must meet a minimum quorum of 20 members in attendance. The best way we know how to do that is make a delightful sandwich of AGM filling on circus bread with a side of raffles.
Come! It'll be fun! Please note that entry fees are not applicable to the AGM - this is, of course, free to attend for all members.
I saw an ad the other day for an acrobat. So easy. I could do that standing on my head.
Circus, Nutrition, AND Outreach? Sounds ideal!
Spin Out Healthy Canberra Grant program supported by ACT Health! This term we'll see Nutrition Australia ACT rejoin our programs with Canberra's special schools Woden, Black Mountain, Cranleigh and Malkrara, providing healthy eating exposure for students from these schools alongside our circus classes. The NAACT programs have seen great benefit in the past helping students experience different healthy foods picking and making tasty things from the NAACT gardens. Paired with a good amount of physical and mental exercise in the circus rooms, the program as a whole continues to be a great success. Term 2 will also see the restart of our programs for Maribyrnong Primary school and UCHSK LSU's both running in their respective schools.
I applied, but got hired to replace the retiring clown. She was pretty great though, so I have some big shoes to fill.
Driving Social Inclusion
Driving Social Inclusion teens programs supported by the Australian Governments Health Department! This term will see the contunation of a number of school based programs aimed at supporting and engaging disadvantaged and at risk teens. We will continue our classes with ACT Ed's Flex Ed classes Mulliyan and The Cottage, as well as Charles-Condor primary school and the new after school class at Mura-Lanyon YWCA's youth center. We will also be continuing to develop a very exciting new relationship with the Karabar Clontarf Academy!
I always wanted to work in the circus, because my mum was a stiltwalker. I used to really look up to her.
Discounted Program - Mura Lanyon Kick Ups
Our Southside Mura Lanyon Kick Ups class in Conder has been provided with a generous subsidy by the Department of Health - long story short that means that we are able to apply a special discount to the class!!

Speaking of Belco Arts…
They are running a project to make a circus show. From what we've been told there will be a guest from CiRCA directing the work. It's a paid gig you can audition for. They are asking for applicants over the age of 18. If yer keen, check out the Belco Arts website and see when it's all happening.
It could be a good foot in the door for artists keen to work with CiRCA!
Artists keen to apply are welcome to chat to the office about any questions or concerns they have regarding this opportunity.
Please note this project has nothing to do with Warehouse Circus; we are just passing on the information.
